Dennis Lee Alwan

He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Alwan and sister-in-law, Mary Alwan. Surviving to cherish his memory is his mother, Evelyn Alwan; siblings, Cathy Alwan, Gary Alwan, Sharon (Gary) Harrison, and Ricky Alwan; nieces and nephew, Renee (Jay) Percell, Carolyn (Matt) Noel, Michael (Laura) Alwan, Christine Alwan, and Anne Marie Alwan; cousins, great-nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

Dennis was born September 11, 1948 to Oscar and Evelyn (Malcoun) Alwan, was raised in Peoria, and was a lifelong parishioner of St. Philomena Catholic Church.

In his early years, Dennis helped at the family grocery store, Alwan’s Market. He graduated from Bergan High School and Southern Illinois University. Dennis was a member of the Itoo Men’s Club. He retired as a manager at Schooner’s.

Dennis had a deep love for his family and friends. He was always present to them, making them feel loved and cherished. Dennis had a passion for golf, hunting, fishing, and the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2017 at St. Philomena Catholic Church in Peoria, IL. There will be a visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to mass. Fr. David Richardson will officiate. Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home and St. Philomena Catholic Church.
