He was born On October 24, 1950, in Madison, Wisconsin to Edward and Mary (McKeown) West. Dennis had a challenging start in life, but it never broke his spirit. Because of his background, he was able to relate to almost anyone with a life story that put them at ease. He could, and would, talk to everyone. As he liked to say, "I'll talk to a telephone pole if it hums!"
Originally from Wisconsin, he had great places to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed the company of other Packer fans. He welded most of his life at different factories but was willing to take on any job he was asked to do. Dennis was happiest when he was busy. He retired from John Deere in Horicon.
Dennis loved spreading the Gospel and felt at home at First United Methodist Church, Peoria, Illinois, where he was a member. He helped with everything from communion to nursing home visits. But his special calling was with the Loaves and Fish ministry. He enjoyed the other volunteers, but his eyes lit up when he talked about the people they were helping and the things he could do to make their lives better.
Dennis is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Barbara (Tschaepe) Allsworth. Also surviving are daughters, Kimberly (Glen) McCumber and Lynnelle (Devon) Jenkins, sons, Nathan (Christina) and Daniel; grandchildren, Sasha and Clayton Jenkins, stepsons, Tom (Jane) Allsworth, Mike Allsworth; step-granddaughters, Samantha and Sophia Allsworth. Also surviving is, a sister, Patti (Tom) Eakley, brothers-in-law, Al Meyer, Larry Sibert and Peter (Lois) Tschaepe, as well as several stepsiblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters Monica (Monie) Meyer, Mary Sibert, Cindy Ewing, and a niece.
A visitation for Dennis will be held Monday, September 29, 2025, from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, with a funeral service to occur following the visitation. Pastor Tom Ozment will officiate. Graveside will conclude at Parkview Cemetery.
