He was born Jan. 13, 1951 in Peoria to George and Hazel (Sick) Malchow. He married Bonnie Brandt July 30, 1995 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. She survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Doug received an associate’s degree in Graphic Arts. He spent his working years at the Peoria Park District and MultiAd Services doing Graphic Arts, and as a Home Care Worker. He lovingly and tenderly cared for his elderly parents at home for many years when they became ill and served as a home care worker for various friends who were disabled or ill. Doug was a pure musical talent and an amazing lead guitarist with a drive to master his craft. He and Bonnie performed as a duo in various venues. He had a great love for worshiping God with music. Doug had a childlike wonder at the divine beauty of things around him and a compassionate, sensitive spirit. He suffered well at the end of his life, never complained and was always full of faith and hope. He was a member of the Oaks Family Church in Peoria Heights. His life verse and intent was this: “One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord, all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord….” (Psalm 27) which he is now doing with great joy. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Funeral services will be Friday Dec. 23, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Peoria Heights Congregational Church. Rev. Patrick Sheets will officiate. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Friday at the church. Private burial services will be in Lutheran Cemetery.
