

He was born July 8, 1946 in Peoria to John F. and Ollidean D. (Gruber) Colgan. He married Phyllis A. Zellner June 16, 1973 in Mendota, IL. She survives along with one daughter, Colleen (Kenny) Shults of Golconda, IL, one son, Peter (Shannon) Colgan of Peoria, seven grandchildren: Austin, Mikey, Caleb, Reese, Devin, Andria, and Kendal. He was also survived by three step-brothers and one step-sister.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Colgan, mother and step-father, Ollidean and Fred Huber, and one infant daughter, Amanda Grace Colgan.
Jerry was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Following the war he taught at Manual High School from 1973 till 1977 then was a Pharmaceutical Sales Rep in the Peoria area from 1977 till 2005, and from 2005 till the present time Jerry was the Associate Pastor of Visitation at Bradley Epworth Church in Peoria.
Jerry was a graduate of Manual High School and the only golfer from MHS to ever play in the state tournament. He also earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Western Illinois University.
Funeral services will be Saturday March 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Peoria. Rev. Tom Eckhardt will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria.
Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
