Harry E. "Bompoo" Bates

He was born on December 17, 1946 in Ottumwa, IA to Bruce M. and Mildred (Beghtol) Bates. He married Helen Kay Bowling on November 26, 1965 in rural Bloomfield, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father in law, Cecil Bowling, infant brother, David, his sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Lundy Weeks and his brother-in-law, Bud Ware.

Surviving are his wife, Kay of Peoria, four children, Robert Bates, Lori Plumer, Stephanie Bates all of Peoria and Ben Bates of East Peoria. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Matthew Plumer, Bryn, Jagger, Bailey and Jersey Bates, one brother, Richard (Peg) Bates of Drakesville, IA, two sisters, Mary Jo (Larry) Balmer of Bloomfield, IA and Cheryle Ann (Kevin) Miller of Warsaw, his mother-in-law, Ruth Bowling of Bloomfield, IA, two sisters-in-law, Elaine (Gerald) Hill of Kirksville, MO and Earlene Ware of Johnston, IA, one brother-in-law, Stephen (Karen) Bowling of Bloomfield, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Harry owned and operated H.B. Air Conditioning, Refrigeration & Heating and worked in the HVAC Maintenance Dept. with I.C.C. and was a member of the local HVAC Union. Harry enjoyed hunting, gardening, fishing with his children and grandchildren and taking care of his Cadillac. He also enjoyed to travel and looked forward to his annual vacation to South Padre Island, TX.

A service will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 6:00pm, with visitation from 4 to 6 pm at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home in Peoria. The Rev. Paul Trilikis will officiate. Cremation will be accorded following the service.
