

Jack D. Bolen, 64, of Sparland, formerly of Peoria, passed away at 12:54 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. He was born November 20, 1948 in Peoria to Byford and Viola (Pellhum) Bolen. He married Muriel Elaine Grove on June 29, 1969 in Bartonville. Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Pastor Elaine Bolen of Sparland; two sons, David H. (Monique) Bolen of Oregon, WI, Aaron P. Bolen of Peoria; four granddaughters, Taylor, Savannah, Lalaina, and Rebekah; and his mother Viola Bolen of Bellevue. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Jack was a Navy career man serving 21 years 3 months and 15 days. He was a Vietnam veteran and served on the USS Saratoga, USS Constellation, USS Enterprise, and USS Ranger. He was awarded and earned the Navy commendation. He was serving on the Admiral Staff as Sr. Chief Petty Officer when he retired on July 31, 1988. After his Navy career, Jack worked for the Department of Employment Security with the State of Illinois as a field office supervisor. Jack was an avid fisherman and enjoyed painting and wood burning. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sparland. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 Noon, on Friday, April 5, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Peoria. Rev. Dr. Paul Maitland, Jr. will officiate as well as Rev. James Vincent and Associate pastors John Murray and John Lafollette. Visitation will be (10 to noon) 2 hours prior to services at the church on Friday. Cremation will be accorded. Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Inurnment will be in Parkview Cemetery Chapel of Peace. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Sparland or The National Kidney Foundation.
