Jim was born on July 17, 1934 in Peoria to the late Charles M. Culshaw and Helen (Fitzpatrick) Culshaw of Bartonville.
Jim graduated from Pekin High School in 1952, then he joined the Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Daniel A. Joy until 1954. Jim started his post-navy work life at Keystone Steel and Wire, and later held sales management positions at Breese Illinois Incorporated and Couch & Heyl, before opening his own Industrial Supply business, CDS Industrial.
Jim was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his family. He was a passionate golfer, an excellent wood craftsman and he enjoyed country line dancing for many years.
Jim also enjoyed Bradley Basketball and he and his family attended numerous Missouri Valley Tournaments in St. Louis. In his retirement years he never missed a St. Louis Cardinals Baseball game on television.
Jim was a faithful member of First Christian Church of Peoria, where he served on many committees, enjoyed Bible studies and reading from the pulpit during services. He was an excellent servant for his church and for those in need.
Aside from spending time with his grandchildren, perhaps nothing brought Jim more pure pleasure in life than mowing grass early in the morning at Arrowhead Country Club golf course, where he was a member for many years. He loved the smell of the fresh cut grass, watching the wildlife, the beauty of the sunrise and quiet time spent with his Lord and Savior, all from the serenity of a riding mower.
Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Joy (McGee) Culshaw; his children, Paula Ann Utley (Dan), James Allen Culshaw (Sue) of Peoria, Daniel G. Hughes (Kay) of Grand Prairie, TX, Cindy (Hughes) Capps (Bill) of Springfield, MO and Steven J. Hughes (Sandra) of St. Louis, as well as his sister Sandra Badgerow (Bernie) of Morton and brother, Robert Culshaw of Peoria, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
