Janet Kay van Ness

Janet Kay "Jan" Van Ness, 76, of Edelstein, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Accolade. Born in Peoria, on May 8, 1949, she was the daughter of the late John and Mildred (Lloyd) Van Ness.

She is survived by a sister, Jennifer Van Ness of Show Low, AZ; two brothers, Jeffery Van Ness of Edelstein, and Joel (Jayne) Van Ness of West Peoria; a cousin, John Adams of Chicago; and her nieces and nephews, Jill Monroe of Bartonville, Jenny Howell of Peoria, Joel Van Ness of Peoria, Jacob Van Ness of Denver, CO, Janice Eberle of Oswego, and Johnna Staat of Holland, MI. Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John H. Van Ness II.

Jan attended Bradley University and received her masters degree from University of Illinois. She worked as a registered occupational therapist for University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, TX and went on to work for IPMR in Peoria until her retirement. From 1970-1973, Jan served in the Peace Corps in Liberia. She was an active member of the soft coated wheaten terrier club, and enjoyed breeding and showing her dogs.
