John Inman McGill Jr.

John I. McGill Jr, 78, of Peoria, went to be with his Savior, surrounded by family, at 3:10 AM on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on June 26, 1939 in Hamilton County, IL to John Inman and Opal Mezo McGill. He married Mary M. “Patt” Hollis in Eureka on July 4, 1959. She preceded him death on June 16, 2005 in Peoria. He was also preceded by his parents, one son James R. McGill, four sisters, and one brother.

He later married Rebecca Smythe on November 3, 2007 in Washington, IL. She survives along with three sons Danny L. (Robin) McGill, Timothy B. (Carrie) McGill and Gary A. (Cindy) McGill; seven Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren; and five siblings Dorothy Roberts, Mary Craddock, JoAnn Gray, Gary E. McGill and Gloria “Judy” Prince.

John was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He had worked for the Caterpillar Company Inc., retiring as a manager in 1996. He was an associate member of UAW Local #974, where he had served as the Financial Secretary. He was a member and Past-President of Caterpillar Retirees Club, and a member of the Caterpillar Employees Motorsports Club. He was an avid NASCAR and Cardinals fan.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Pastor Richard Hanson will officiate. A visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:00 PM prior to the services at the funeral home. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Peace at Parkview Cemetery in Peoria.
