

He was a resident of Bellevue, Illinois formerly of Dakota County, Minnesota.
He worked as a machine operator for Caterpillar Inc., dedicating 30 years of service before retiring. In addition to working at Caterpillar, Inc., he was the owner of Slama Disposal, a sanitation company, until his retirement in July 2016.
John served his country with honor in the United States Army, achieving the rank of Corporal. He was inducted on May 18, 1953, and was discharged on May 2, 1955. During his service, he was a combat engineer with the 6th Armored Division.
On March 2, 1957, John married Juanita Huff in Peoria. They shared a long and loving marriage until her passing on May 10, 2021.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Becky Hall and son, Kenneth Slama; four brothers; three sisters.
John is survived by his three children: Steve Binegar of Pottstown, Roger (Karen) Slama of Peoria, and Deborah (Gary) Taylor of Peoria. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Slama.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation being one hour prior to service at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Pastor Craig Hislope will officiate. Burial and military honors will take place at Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
