
He was born August 6, 1942 in Shoffner, AR a son of Lee Sidney and Ruby Lawson Smith Sr. He married Shirley Hatchett on September 29, 2001 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, LaRosa "Rosie" Marks of Peoria, Angelia Grubb of Canton; four step-children, Francis (Marvin) Allen of Peoria, Garnetta (Curtis) Brown of Minneapolis, MN, Franklin (Georgia) Stacey of Peoria, and Arron Weeams of Peoria; two grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; four brothers, Alex Levi Smith, Henry Lee Smith, Carl D. Smith all of Peoria, and Albert Henry Coburn of Sikeston, MO; nine sisters, Sercy Lee Neal of Little Rock, AR, Bonnie S. Calhoun of Indianapolis, IN, Mary L Slaughter of St. Louis, MO, Annie S. (Walter) Gardner of Augusta, AR, Sarah J. (Hubby) Jackson of St. Louis, MO, Mary L. (Dale) Sherrill of Detroit, MI, Pearl L. Smith, Jean (Fred) Neal, Janice Smith all of Newport, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, step-mother, and three brothers, Herman Smith, Willie Smith, and Robert Smith.
Lee first worked at Hiram Walker in Peoria until 1981, and later was employed by Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria.
He was a member of Paris Church of Christ in Peoria where he served until his health failed him.
He accepted Christ at an early age in Arkansas, Graduated from Branch High School in Newport, AR in 1960 and went into the U.S. Army and served for six years. After his military career he resided in Peoria.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Rick Liggin will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
