Lucille Gertrude Bruce

Lucille was born April 28, 1919, the daughter of Bernard and Marie Uphoff. She married Lester Bruce on April 6, 1940 in Bartonville.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Schroeder of Huntington Beach, California, and two grandsons, Jeffrey Schroeder of Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Scott Schroeder of Huntington Beach, California, and three brothers, Rolland Uphoff (Barbara) of St., Louis, Mo., Wendell Uphoff (Wanda) of East Peoria, Illinois; Marvin Uphoff (Opal) of Pekin, Illinois, and a sister-in law, Bertha (Donald) Bitner of Bellevue, Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, two brothers and one sister.

Mrs. Bruce was a long-time member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, where she had taught Sunday school, and belonged to the Golden Years Club.

Mrs. Bruce was an accomplished gardener, baker and homemaker. She was devoted to her family. She graduated from Manual High School, and in her later years worked as the Assistant Manager at Becks Florist in East Peoria, Illinois.

Services will be held Friday, March 21, 2014 at 11m at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville, Illinois, with the Rev. Dr. Philip Lund officiating. There will be a visitation from 10am to 11am at the church before the service. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Memorials may be made to her church.
