Born in Peoria, on November 24, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Harry Noel and Mary (Hopson) Roos. On July 15, 1983, she married James T. Thurmond in Peoria. He preceded her in death on October 27, 2014.
Surviving are her two sons, Carl (Trena Brewer) Hess and Marty (Melissa) Kern III; five grandchildren, Cody (Tori) Kern, Chelsea (Brendan) Nachtrieb, Corrine Kern, Connor Kern, and Zoey Hess; and four great-grandchildren. Aside from her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Shea Shaterlee; two brothers, one in childhood and Vernon Noel; and a sister, Nancy Houge.
She worked as a housekeeper for many years and enjoyed crocheting.
Visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2025, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery.
