

While growing up, she attended a one-room school house in Pearl, and after obtaining a teaching certificate from Western Illinois University, she returned to teach at that very same school.
On September 2, 1950, she married Robert D. Waggoner who preceded her in death in 2004. She had two children, Norman Waggoner (Susan) of Pekin, and Pamela Onken (Dennis) of Peoria, and two grandchildren, Amy Spencer (Joseph) of Peoria and David Onken of East Peoria. She also had two brothers, Harold Glen Ottwell (Belle) of Germantown, and Morris Dean Ottwell (Sherry) of Milton, Illinois. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
Mary worked briefly in the early 1950’s at Caterpillar Tractor Co. and later worked at and retired from the Great Central Insurance Co. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping and fishing, and in later years working on picture puzzles and word find books. She was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She was a long-time member of the Paris Avenue Church of Christ in Peoria.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at Green Pond Christian Church. Additional visitation will be held an hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church. Her final resting place will be in the Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl, Illinois.
