
She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Savanna, Ill., to Floyd and Elnora (Engleman) Seitzberg. She married Richard D. Schmidt on Sept. 17, 1950, in Peoria, Ill. He passed away on Feb. 8, 2005, in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by one brother. Surviving are one son, William (Betty) Schmidt of Fort Myers Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Kathy (William) Hoppenrath of Hilton Head Island, S.C., and Jani (Steve) Herman of Pekin; one brother, Robert (Merle) Seitzberg of Tempe, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Bill and Blaine Schmidt, Josh Herman and Brea (Corey) Dorsey; and one great-grandchild Aubrey. Known by all as "Grandma Marylyn," she touched many lives and considered the Barrett, Beach, Boland, Edwards, Fleshman, Schwab and Shane families as her own extended family. In addition to being a homemaker, Marylyn ran a home day care in the '70s and '80s.
She was a charter member of Timberlake Country Club and belonged to Northwoods Community Church.
She enjoyed camping, traveling and spending time with her family and extended family. She had a special love for children.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 3, 2011, at Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel. The Rev. Kirk Moser will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
