

Melvin R. Plattner, 93, of Peoria, went Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria. He was born on October 16, 1928, a son of Joseph and Emma (Gudeman) Plattner. He married Mardell Hunziker on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1954 in Peoria. She survives.
Melvin is also survived by his son, Kevin (Karen) Plattner of Peoria; two grandsons, Brandon (Muang) Plattner of Dunlap and Dustin Plattner of Sierra Madre, CA; one sister, Betty Wiegand of Fairbury; one sister-in-law, Edith Plattner of Peoria; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Anna Marie Koch and Grace Bauer; and two brothers, Russell and Kenneth Plattner.
Melvin was a graduate of Manual High School, class of 1946. He began working as a landscaper for D.A. Hoerr and Sons for a few years. He then worked for his father-in-law, Albert Hunziker at Home Comfort Insulation as an installer for nearly 30 years. He loved working with his hands, whether that was gardening, planting, or pruning. He was a humble man with a gentle spirit who always went the extra mile to help those in need and a friend to everyone he met.
He was a member of the Peoria Apostolic Christian Church, where he also taught 4th grade Sunday school for several years.
Melvin's funeral will be a private family service. Interment will be in Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery in Edwards. Davison-Fulton-Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria.
