He was born July 7, 1944 in Drew, MS, to Willie and Ollie-Bell (Williams) Giles, Sr. They preceded him in death along with one daughter, Shondra Giles-Smith, six sisters and six brothers, including Willie Giles, Jr, and several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include the love of his life, Crystal Sherman of Peoria, six children: Francis Sherman, Jr, Lorrena (David) Griffith, Ollie Giles, Jr, Helen (Tim) Churchwell, Ollie-Bell Tate, Joyce Spaine, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ollie was a Police Officer retiring in 1984 and was very proud of the fact he was the first African American Police Officer in the town of Hayti, Missouri in 1977.
He was also an avid fisherman.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 2 p.m. at the Davison-Fulton Woodland Chapel in Peoria. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Cremation rites will be accorded following the services.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center on Rt. 91 in Peoria.
