

Dr. Raman K. Raman, age 81, of Peoria, passed away Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at 10:57 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born May 3, 1933 in Kumbakonam, TamilNadu State, India to Veerasamy Naidu and Radharukmani. He married Parimala Rajagopalan Aug. 31, 1958 in India. She survives along with one daughter, Bharathi (Michael) Earls of St. Louis, MO, one son, Ven (Mythili) Raman of Potomac, MD, and two grandchildren: Maya and Shiv Raman of Potomac. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. He received his PhD in Civil Engineering in 1968 from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and achieved his Professional Engineering license soon after. Raman was a Civil Engineer for the Office of Water Quality Management at the Illinois State Water Survey from 1968-1998, retiring with the title of Principal Scientist and Director. He was a member of several Civil Engineer societies and in 1998 he received the ILMA Lake Guardian Award. He was a member of the Hindu Temple of Central Illinois Peoria. Raman was a resident of Peoria since 1968. He was a very loving and respected member of the community, a dedicated mentor and tutor to many children and a selfless and honorable man who always put the needs of others ahead of his own. He was never at a loss for a smile and a kind word. Visitation will be Sunday Jan. 25, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. There will be eulogies by family and friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. followed by Hindu cremation rites.
