

She was born December 19, 1927 in Warren Co, IL, to Wayne and Nettie Leezer Farrar. She attended school in Checkrow and graduated from Avon High School. She married Donald Hunter in 1947 in Avon, IL. She worked for the Federal Land Bank for many years. After retiring, she became a school crossing guard for the Knoxville School District, affecting many children and adults alike who remember her as the cookie lady.
She is survived by her son, Terry (Rachel) Hunter of Friendswood, TX; her daughter, Judy (Mick) Rashid of Dunlap, IL; two grandsons, Rob (Jessica) Hunter of O’Fallon, MO and Joe (Ashley) Rashid of Peoria, IL; three great-grandchildren, Garrett and Tennley Rashid and Michaela Hunter. She is also survived by one sister, Viola “Babe” Jerome of Grand Junction, CO and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a brother, Kenny Farrar; a sister, Marie Ginther; and a grandson, Michael Hunter. She also has many friends both young and old who remember the great cookies and pies she made and shared with many.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 11:30am at the Knoxville United Methodist Church, 303 S. Broad St., Knoxville, IL, 61448, with visitation beginning at 9:30am. Order of the Eastern Star services will be held at 11am at the church. Rev. Dan Lybarger and Rev. Dianne Duncan will be officiating. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Knoxville United Methodist Church, Alvin United Methodist Church or the Order of the Eastern Star.
