He was born June 26, 1951 in Peoria, Illinois to Sam and Mable (Hanson) Hoskins. His father preceded him in death. He married Lillian Jaggers on May 21, 1994 in Peoria. He is survived by his wife Lillian, his mother Mable, sisters Delores Thelen, Linda Hoskins and Vanessa Harris, three children; Kim Hoskins, Samantha (Nick) Peitzmeier and Chad Hoskins, two grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Although seriously ill for many years Sammie lived an active fulfilled life. Sammie served in the United States Air Force as a Security Specialist. He stayed in uniform by proudly serving for 32 years with the Peoria Police Department, retiring in 2009 at the rank of Sergeant. He distinguished himself in the department as a recipient of the American Legion Meritorious Service Award, as well as distinguished service awards. He was devoted to the Cops for Kids Organization of Peoria for many years.
Sammie recently became the first full patched member of the Buffalo Troopers Motorcycle Club of Phoenix, Arizona, 124th Chapter of the National Association of Buffalo Soldiers and Troopers Motorcycle Club of which he was a founding member. He also recently became a member of the American Legion Post 65.
As an avid car enthusiast he won many awards for his 65 Buick Riviera, and was featured in the Goodguys Magazine. He also played in some well known bands in Peoria during his younger years. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson although he’d be just as content to be in his garage wiping on his cars or motorcycle, or strumming his bass guitar.
The family will celebrate his life with a visitation 1:00pm, Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home, 2408 W. Willow Knolls Drive, Peoria followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:00pm.
