

He was born in Bethany, MO, a son of Ronald (Gene) and Elizabeth (Ermagene) Preston. He married Connie Funkhouser on August 13, 1967 in Murray, Iowa. He is survived by his wife, a son Bart (Lorrie) Preston of Peoria, IL, a daughter, Kristin (Perry) Stanley of Jewell, IA, six grandchildren; Zachary (Jessica Geerdes) Stanley of Stratford, IA, Elizabeth Stanley of Menomonie, WI, Alexandria, Sophia, Olivia and Oakley Preston of Peoria, IL, three great grandchildren; Samuel, Quinton and Hazel Stanley, two step great grandchildren, Madison Isles and Talyn Ford, one brother, Brad (Kelly) Preston of Indianapolis, IN, two sisters-in-law, Rita (Mike) Doyle of Oakland, IA and Sandy (Tom) Bisbee of Colorado Springs, CO, and several nieces and nephews.

He attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO gaining a degree in elementary education. After college he taught in the Tama Toledo Iowa school district. He served in the Navy for 5 years in Naval intelligence as a Russian Linguist during the Vietnam War, earning multiple commendations. He and his family were stationed at the Misawa, Japan Air Force base for two years. After being honorably discharged from the military, he went to work for Caterpillar where he retired 36 years later, spending the majority of his career in the engine service training instructor, which took him all over the world. Through his life, he travelled through all 50 states and all continents, except Antarctica.
Stan was an avid sports fan, enjoying NASCAR, baseball and football. He rooted for Rusty Wallace, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys early on and later in life the Green Bay Packers.
Stan was a long-time resident of Princeville, IL. He was involved in several community organizations through the years, including the Masons, American Legion Post 248, and served in several volunteer positions in the United Methodist Church. One of his favorite activities was the community theater guild where he starred in several community plays. He also volunteered with the Cub Scouts in Princeville where he served as the Scoutmaster. He mentored his eldest grandson to earning his Eagle Scout ranking. He also spent several year volunteering with the Akron Princeville fire and ambulance squads. After moving to Peoria, he attended church at Northwoods Community church.
He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed the several vacations he took with his brother. Through the years several hours were spent around the holiday table, playing cards, laughing and telling stories of family times from years past. As his parents got up in years, he moved his parents to a house close to him. After his mother passed away, his father moved to assisted living. Stan would visit his father three times a week until his passing two months ago.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Northwoods Community Church, 10700 N Allen Rd. Peoria, Il. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church. Davison-Fulton Woolsey-Wilton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Burial will be at Princeville Township Cemetery with Military Honors.
