After working for 10 years as a machinist at the Brass Foundry Company, he began his career in law enforcement and security services. He served on the Peoria Police Department and later attained the rank of sergeant at Burns Security. He went on to be head of security at the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria and retired from there after 20 years of service.
Steve was a long-time supporter of native communities in the American southwest. He was a voracious reader with a phenomenal memory for content.
A lover of animals great and small, Steve generously supported numerous rescue and sanctuary organizations and shared his home with many lucky felines over the years.
