

David E. Fought of Toledo passed away August 3, 2011. David was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 16, 1925 to Emory and Helen Fought. He was raised in Perrysburg and after high school he served the United States Army in the 1st Infantry Division during World War II in Europe. He landed at Omaha Beach on D-Day and was in combat for the following 18 months. David was awarded two Bronze Star metals for his service. After the war he attended Bowling Green State University. He married Mary Ellen Berridge in 1948.
In 1952, he began his banking career with 1st National Bank. He retired as a Bank Officer in 1987. He was a member of Laurel Hills Tennis Club for many years and continued to play golf often.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mary Ellen, son David A. Fought (Maureen), sisters: Nancy Squeo of Florida, Patricia Pickett (George) of Maumee and Peggy Martin of Holland, Ohio, grandchildren: Jessica Fought (Jeremy Vedra), Erik Fought (Angela), Chris Fought, and Cori Lindsay (Paul), great-grandchildren: Carina Fought and Jack Lindsay. David was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Fought and brother-in-law, Ron Martin.
Friends and family may visit the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home at 222 East South Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133) from 3-8 P.M. on Monday, August 8, 2011. A Graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Fort Meigs Union Cemetery, 620 W. Indiana Avenue, Perrysburg, Ohio. Donations in David’s name may be given to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 800 S. Detroit Avenue, Toledo, Ohio 43609.
