Alfred "Fred" Ionson

IONSON, Alfred Ernest – Peacefully at Peterborough Regional Health Centre on January 22, 2015 at age 87. Beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Mahoney) and the late Mary Hope Patricia Smythe. Dear father of Michael Ionson (Karen) of Welland, Craig Ionson of Buckhorn, Jennifer Ionson (Chatelal Boodram) of Scarborough and Stuart Ionson (Marie) of Stoney Creek. Dear stepfather of Heather Lane (Jacob Bakker) of Melbourne, Andrew Lane (Linda) of Carp and Gregory Lane of Ennismore. Grandfather of Kathryn , Thomas, Annaliese, Sarah, Randy, Steven, Christian, Timothy, Natasja, Katie, Amy and Joshua. Great grandfather of Austin, Preston, Tristan, Raya, Shyden, Savian, Cole, Zachary and Jaycob. Brother of the late Pauline McMillan, the late Lloyd Ionson, and the late Marie Ionson. Uncle of Lorne McMillan. Fred was an executive at Sears Canada for 33 years. During his time there, he travelled the world, being one of the first to visit in open trade with China. He served on many boards including the International Standards Organization helping to bring the Metric System to Canada. He was a founding member of the Sears Retirees Response Group and a board member of the Peterborough Memorial Society. Visitation will be held at the Comstock Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 356 Rubidge Street on Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Martin of Tours Church, Ennis Road, Ennismore on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. In memory of Mr. Ionson, donations to Kawartha Food Share would be appreciated by the family.
