Drew was the middle child of our family, born in 1956 in Peterborough, Ontario to George and Helen Mackey.
He had a happy childhood, enjoying watersports at the cottage on Chemong Lake in the summer, and his school years at Confederation School and Kenner Collegiate.
Drew loved music and playing the guitar and hosted many great parties at his home “Drew’s Blues Bar”.
Drew suffered from schizophrenia for many years, nevertheless he pursued his music and enjoyed his family, his friends, and his apartment.
In accordance with his wishes, Drew remained in his home until a brief stay in the hospital where he passed away peacefully on January 26.
Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his sister Jacqueline, brother Dean, sister-in-law Donna (Noble), nieces Michelle (Neil Osborne) and Paige, and his many Peel and Mackey cousins and friends.
The family wants to recognize the wonderful caregivers who provided Drew with support and dignity during his final months. Notably; Dr. Bartlett, Dr. Blake, attending nurse Jennifer of Saint Elizabeth Health Care, and personal support workers Tasha and Taylor.
A private family service will be held for Drew.
