June 11, 1923 - June 8, 2025
Passed peacefully on Sunday June 8, 2025, three days shy of her 102nd birthday. Beloved wife of the late Rob Roy. Loving mother of Rob Roy (Katherine Cowan), Heather Roy (Jim Burns), Kirk Roy (Heather), Karen Bishop (Tim), Bonnie Roy and Margaret Waite (Clayton). Dear grandmother of eight - Nora, Graham, Will, Bonnie, Sam, Emily, Catherine and Jackson - and great grandmother of seven. Born in 1923, Catherine was a lifetime resident of Peterborough. She graduated from Peterborough Collegiate in 1940 and continued her post secondary education at the University of Toronto, Victoria College, where she earned a BA degree in liberal arts. On her return to Peterborough Catherine worked as a switchboard operator at Quaker Oats. In 1947 Catherine married her childhood sweetheart, Rob Roy, the third generation of Roy photographers to run the 150+ year old Roy Studio on Hunter Street. Shortly thereafter Catherine and Rob, who were both “only” children, started a family. They raised six children and enjoyed spending summers camping in Vermont and the Kawarthas. In retirement they enjoyed summers sailing Georgian Bay. Catherine was an avid reader, a member of several book clubs in her younger years and a longtime member of St. John’s Anglican Church. During the covid lockdowns she read the bible cover to cover. Other interests included a lifelong appreciation of music (especially the big bands of the 40’s), “creative” sewing and chocolate. Catherine loved chocolate. She enriched the lives of everyone she touched with her bright smile, sharp wit and good nature. Thoughtful, sweet and gentle, she was a very special lady and will be sorely missed by all. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Rubidge Retirement Residence for their incredible work and loving support over the past 13 years. We would also like to thank Dr. Tainsch, Catherine’s personal doctor, for her thoughtful care over many years. A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church on Saturday June 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm. A reception will follow in the church’s Guild Hall. Parking available on Brock Street, at the Courthouse, at Scotiabank on Hunter Street or St. John’s circular driveway off Hunter Street. Interment at Little Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s Anglican Church www.https://stjohnspeterborough.ca/donate. Online condolences may be posted at www.comstockkaye.com.
