Passed peacefully at home in Selwyn on March 11, 2015 at age 81. He was married 59 years to the love of his life, Betty. Neil was raised by his grandmother in Glasgow, Scotland, and spent his summers as a youth in Mallaig in the Western Highlands with the Kelly family. He was an avid sportsman, played soccer, was an amateur boxer and a wonderful ballroom dancer. He completed his national service in the Royal Air Force in England. In his work life, he enjoyed his painting trade and was foreman of painters at Ontario Hydro. Neil was proud to be called “Glasgow Irish” and his favorite music was Celtic Folk, which he played loudly and sang with gusto. His passion was working in the beautiful garden he had created and his leisure time was spent enjoying professional soccer, particularly Celtic and Liverpool. He was a champion snooker and dart player at Branch 13 Legion. He was an Ontario Provincial Champion at lawn bowling and Champion in the West Florida League. Neil and Betty retired enjoying their winters in Florida and traveling all over Canada and the USA to see their grandchildren compete in their athletic events from their youth level to their professional ranks. Neil always said his legacy was his children and grandchildren. Cherished father of Mary-Catherine Kelly of Peterborough, Neil (Shelley) Kelly of Kansas City and Kenneth (Karen) Kelly of Toronto. Much loved grandfather of Katie, Patrick, Maegan, Robert, Declan and Greer. At Neil’s request cremation has taken place.
