Beloved husband of Anne Jesty (nee Campbell) for 69 wonderful years, Dan’s life was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a strong and devoted family of children and grandchildren who remained at the centre of his world.
He was a loving father to the late Sally (Peter) Digaetano and Donna Jesty-Oakes. Dan will be deeply missed by his cherished grandchildren; Michael, Matthew, Adam, Tanner and Karley and great grandchildren, Ava, Sebastian and Mattias. Whenever he had the chance, he imparted to them anything he could about his beloved Cape Breton Island, including ensuring they all knew how to sing “Out on the Mira”. His warmth, wisdom, and gentle presence will live on through each of them.
Dan enjoyed a long and successful career in electronics sales, representing many of the major electronics manufacturers over the years. A natural salesman, he was known for his personable nature, charisma, and easy ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
Following his professional life, he and Anne retired to their treasured spot on Buckhorn Lake where they enjoyed years of great fun and memories with many friends and family.
Beyond his professional life, Dan had a deep love of music. He generously shared that passion as the musical coordinator of the Buckhorn Singers for many years, bringing joy and community to those around him through song. An enthusiastic vocalist, Dan never turned down an opportunity to use his own remarkable voice to perform for others, especially if it included a selection from George Jones.
Dan was perhaps best known for his gift of storytelling. Family gatherings were filled with his jokes and well-loved stories which, though often repeated, never failed to bring laughter. No one enjoyed them more than Dan himself, who was often laughing the hardest even before delivering the punch line.
Dan will be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness to others, and quiet strength. He touched the lives of many, was never forgotten by anyone who met him (even briefly), and will be dearly missed by all who had the blessing of knowing him.
His was a life well-lived, with a love well shared – a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Cremation has taken place and no public service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dan’s memory to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre Foundation.
