August 28 1933 – December 30, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Legris at Hospice Peterborough on December 30, 2024, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence “Buzz” Legris, Jean was a devoted and loving mother to Stephen (Tracey) and Sharon. She was the proud Nanny of Karisa (Dave), Grace, and Tracey’s son Tristan, as well as a cherished Great-Nanny to Payton.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Marjorie (née Long) and Cecil “Jack” Fowley, her sister Marjorie (late Frank) Hayes, and her brother William “Jack” (Shirley) Fowley. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, neighbors, relatives, and friends.
Jean retired after an incredible 47-year career with Kmart. She was an active member of St. John’s Anglican Church, where she volunteered extensively, serving on the Chancel Guild, assisting with the Strawberry Social, and working in the St. John’s Centre Tuck Shop.
In her spare time, Jean was an avid bowler and a longtime member of two bowling leagues, a passion she enjoyed well into her 80s. She also had a deep love for elephants, building a cherished collection over several decades. Jean found joy in traveling to visit friends and family, indulging in her favorite soap operas, television shows and playing games on her tablet and computer.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, D2 Unit, and the compassionate team at Hospice Peterborough for their care and kindness.
Friends are invited to gather for visitation on Thursday, January 9, from 5–8 p.m. at the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street. A funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, January 10, 2025, at 11am, followed by a reception. Interment will take place at Little Lake Cemetery at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Peterborough or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.comstockkaye.com.
Jean will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
