

BATE, Elizabeth Warner “Libby” (nee Long), DPTOT (U of T) – Retired Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist from the Ontario Crippled Children’s Centre, Toronto. – Libby was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary Long of Toronto.
BATE, David Lindsay Stewart, BASc (U of T), LCDR(R)(Ret’d), CD — Retired from Atomic Energy of Canada Ontario Hydro in 1989. – David was the son of Donald and Joan (nee Stewart) of Toronto. David graduated from UTS in 1944 and U of T in 1948.
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, on July 9th 2013, at 80 years young and our father on July 21st 2013, at 87 years young due to injuries sustained in a car accident. They gave us their gifts of strength, wisdom, compassion, humour and the most important gift of unconditional love. Carrying their gifts in our hearts, we will pass them on. They were the loving parents of of Donald (Doris) of Caledon & Douglas (Cecilia) of Trenton, and grandmother of Lindsay & Tiffany.
Elizabeth, known as Libby to those who loved her, is survived by her two brothers Edward (Lynda) Long & Douglas (Linda) Long. David is survived by his twin brother Derek (Cay) Bate. Predeceased by his brother Stewart Bate. Libby will also be remembered by her nieces and nephews; Andrew & Patricia Long, Alexander & Elizabeth Long; and David by his nieces and nephews: Derek Jr., John & Graeme Bate, and Geoffrey, Mary & Janet Bate. They were members of the Peterborough Golf and Country Club, the Peterborough Historical Society, affiliated with Hutchison House, and members of numerous bridge groups. David was a member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute. Libby was a member of the Women's Art association, and within that Association, an active participant in the Antique Study Group and Culinary Arts Group. She shared her passion “Cooking” with other members of a local Cooking Group.
David worked his entire career at Ontario Hydro, where he was instrumental in the development of nuclear energy as a power source.
Libby was a good friend to many. She was always finding ways to help friends. She was a dedicated occupational/physiotherapist and care giver, who acted as a loving mentor to many young people. A memorial gathering in their memory will be held at ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST ANGLICAN CHURCH, 99 Brock Street, on Wednesday, July 24, at 11:30 am.
