It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Frank in his 86th year on April 4, 2024, at Peterborough Hospice after a valiant and brave battle with pancreatic cancer. Retired Claims Manager, Co-operators Insurance (1963 – 1994).
Beloved husband and partner of Helen (predeceased April 2020) who we know was waiting to greet Dad in heaven with open arms. Loving father, mentor and best friend of daughter Diane (Chris) McFarlane and son Chris Daly. Much loved Grandpa to Ian and Kevin McFarlane and Meaghan and Jonathan Daly. Frank is predeceased by his parents Frank and Teresa Daly, brother Jim (Marion) Daly and sister Helen Meagher all late of Peterborough. Survived by brother-in-law Jim (Bernice) Ferriss of Leamington and several nieces and nephews.
Frank was proud of his Irish heritage and known for his quick wit or a joke to break the ice or lighten the mood. He was the type of guy who when he asked you “How are you?” he really meant it. There wasn’t a sport that Frank didn’t like and he tried almost all of the them. He was a member of the Kawartha Golf and Country Club and the Peterborough Family YMCA. Hockey was Frank’s passion and he played for many years with several Peterborough hockey teams throughout all stages of his life, was an OHL referee, passionate golfer (maybe a bit too passionate sometimes) and avid cyclist. It was not uncommon to see Frank cycling all over Peterborough on the trails.
Our family is grateful to so many that carried us through this journey with our Dad and were so kind to him and us every step of the way. Many thanks to Dr Jayaraman, St. Joseph’s Health Centre, University of Toronto, Dr Yousef, Lakeridge Health Radiology, Dr. Sophia Kloppenburg and Dr. Chris Blake and the staff at PRHC Cancer Care and Palliative Care, and the caring and kind staff at Peterborough Hospice who guided Dad and us in his final days, especially Melissa RN, we can’t thank you enough for your compassion and saying just the right things, you are an angel.
Cremation has taken place and in keeping with Frank’s wishes a private family funeral will take place later in the spring. In memory of Frank, our family would appreciate any donations to Peterborough Hospice – 325 London Street, Peterborough, Ontario.
There are good ships and wood ships, ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships and may they always be. (Irish Proverb) Rest easy Dad, its so hard to say goodbye and we will miss you every day but we also know Gary, Pat, Red, Billy, Blodg and Wink were at the first hole waiting for you.
