G. Edmond Burrows

CHARTERED PROFESSIONAL ACCOUNTANT/ENTREPRENEUR - AUTHOR – COLLECTOR

There were three distinct Ed Burrowses -

The FIRST was a consummate businessman. He was a partner (retired) with Dunwoody (now BDO) Chartered Accountants. He committed endless hours to his profession earning him the distinguished designation of Fellow for his service to the profession. After retiring from accounting he developed a needed business, Pension Valuators of Canada. This business he built from the ground up which provided lawyers with the services of valuing pensions on marriage breakdown. Its reputation became widely recognized in Ontario and Ed was considered the guru on the subject and was sought out by numerous law firms as an expert witness in court cases. The SECOND was his passion for research and detail. He wrote five books – Canadian Clocks and Clock Makers, two books for the pension business, a biography of his wife Claire’s maternal family, and his most recent book Putting Your Affairs in Order (in Chapters). The THIRD was his hobbies. He specialized in collecting Canadian-made antique clocks. His book was the only research book of its kind and is in numerous libraries in Canada. His collection exceeded 150 clocks when he finally auctioned them all off several years ago. Ed is survived by his wife Claire of 42 years. Their life was one of love, laughter, travel, entertaining, cottage life, dogs and, most importantly, family. Ed was a true gentleman and a most gentle man. He was always pleasant – he never complained, he never said a negative word about anyone. Ed was so proud of his accomplished children; Karen (Terry) Mitchell, Larry (Donna), Bill (Nancy), Jason (Barb). And his grandchildren and siblings were all so dear to him. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of your choice is greatly appreciated. There will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
