June 20 1941-February 18 2022
In his 81st year, at home in the loving presence of family, and with much love & peace in his heart, Gary peacefully slipped away. His struggles and battle with health complications are forever lifted from his fragile body and mind. He wanted to listen to his music before and as he passed and one song that came on the radio was ‘My Way’ sung by Elvis Presley. Very appropriate for Gary.
Gary is now reunited with his son Larry, sister Lois, mother and father Lila and Ray, close cousin Gord Rutherford, nephew Michael, and others who passed before him.
Gary is fondly remembered and will be sadly missed by his daughters & son-in-laws, Sheree & John, Sally, Susan, Sandra & Peter and Shelley; his grandchildren Curtis, Matt, Mike, Ashley, Tami, Melanie, Tyler, Jennifer, Johnathan, Samantha, Gregory and Brittany as well as his greatgrandchildren Layla, Victoria, Violet, Jack, Ava, Grace, Lila, Sophie, Edie, Julia and Owen. He will also be sadly missed by his sister & brother-in-law, Linda and Mike and many nieces and nephews and long list of friends both Campbellford & Burlington (area), as well in Florida where he spent many winters as he loved warm sunshine.
We mourn the loss of a great man and at the same time we celebrate his life. Gary worked hard his entire life starting when he was very young when he decided to leave Grade 9 to work on the railroad with his father. As his family grew he decided to take a full time job at Ford Motor Company in Oakville and moved his family to Lowville (just north of Burlington). Gary worked for 30 years at Ford, never missing one day of work and received an award for his dedication when he retired. He had a hobby farm he tended to and one of his major LOVES was with horses. He was a pool shark (billiards) and won many games and tournaments; even won 2 trips to play in tournaments in Las Vegas which was another place he enjoyed. Gary also had love for baseball, motorcycles, playing cards and he LOVED his Tim Hortons. So many memories we have and will cherish for years to come. He left us a legacy to be very proud of.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses for their care and compassion as they supported Gary before, during and as he slipped away.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Campbellford Legion would be appreciated.
