With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gloria Mae Hewitt (née Whatman) at Hospice Peterborough on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the age of 83 years. Beloved wife of Herb Hewitt for 63 years. Loving mother of Jim Hewitt (Nancy), Cathy Doyle (Earl), and the late Rick Hewitt. Proud grandmother of Krista Hewitt (Cameron), Jenny Todd (Jordan), Amy Doyle (Benjamin), Jason Doyle (Elysha), and the late Amber Hewitt. Cherished great-grandmother of Isla and Nora Todd. Dear sister of Len (Mary), Wayne (predeceased by Brenda), Terry (Shirley), Tim (Debby), and Greg (Colleen). Adored sister-in-law of Ron (Joan) and Doreen (Bruce). Predeceased by sister Trudy and twin brother Ken. Lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Gloria was a devoted administrative assistant at Kawartha Downs for many years. She enjoyed weekend camping trips to Bon Echo and Darien Lake with family and friends, and especially enjoyed going to Disney World with her children and grandchildren. She loved playing cards with her siblings, hosting family dinners, and Elvis Presley.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Rebecca Webster, the Palliative Care Team at Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and Hospice Peterborough for their kindness and care. A private family service will be held at a later time.
