Known as Gordie
Born May 3, 1970, Scarborough Ontario
Died December 4, 2025, Peterborough,Ontario.
Predeceased by his father, Gordon Ross Ireland and his mother, Alice Elizabeth Ireland.
Brother to Lynne (Bruce), Larry (Wendy), Bill (Linda); two deceased siblings, David and Kenneth. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
As most of Gordie's siblings and family lived far away, Gordie surrounded himself with friends he loved and they became his family. His best friend Andrew Boyd he met through his membership with Special Olympics and Kim Ward (Brett) who he shared a very close, strong brother/sister-like bond for many decades.
If you knew Gordie, you knew a passion for sports was his favorite part of life. He loved Wrestling, Baseball, Hockey and Football. He played Floor hockey and Baseball with the Greater Durham Special Olympics until a few years ago when due to injuries he had to stop. Although, it didn’t stop him from going and supporting fellow players. He also really enjoyed attending church.
Gordie will be missed by many as he always had a smile and a teddy bear hug for everyone.
The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at PRHC for the care they provided.
There will be no funeral.
A Celebration of Life will be announced in the early spring on Gordies Facebook Page.
If you are wishing to make a donation in Gordies name please donate to the Greater Durham Special Olympics, thank you.
You can love someone and still let them go.
Letting go doesn’t mean it wasn’t real or meaningful, or that it didn’t matter.
Be grateful for the beautiful moments you were able to experience and share. (Author Unknown)
