

Passed away at PRHC on March 22, 2026, in his 85th year.
Born in Ottawa on New Years Day in 1942, Hal grew up in the Westboro neighbourhood of Ottawa before moving to Kingston to study engineering at Queen’s University. Graduating in 1964, he soon moved to Peterborough to work at General Electric where he worked as an engineer until his retirement 34 years later.
Hal lived an active life and enjoyed sailing, playing tennis, downhill and cross country skiing, and spending time with family at their cottage on Stony Lake. He was a member of the Peterborough Sailing Club, Quaker Park Tennis Club, Power and Sail Squadron, IEEE, and the Peterborough Astronomical Association to name a few.
Hal and Helen loved to travel and had the pleasure of visiting and exploring locations on all seven continents. Maccu Piccu and Newfoundland were particularly memorable trips.
He is survived by his wife of 58 yrs, Helen (née Charlton); his daughter Wendy, and sons Rob (Yui) and Brian. He was brother-in-law to Elwood Charlton (Mary) and Linda Seabrook (deceased); uncle to Julie, Kathleen Charlton-Brant (Craig), and Darren; and great uncle to Lily. He was predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Jessie Briggs.
The family would like to thank the staff at PRHC for the kind and compassionate care Harold received in his final days.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held on Monday, April 27th from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm at Ashburnham Funeral Home & Reception Centre located at 840 Armour Rd. in Peterborough with Rev. Kevin Derry officiating at 2:00 pm. Please feel free to dress casually. As per Harold’s wishes, cremation has taken place.
