Peacefully at PRHC on Sunday, January 8, 2012 in her 88th year. “Rene”, born in Spalding near Peterborough, England, was predeceased by her parents and three sisters and survived by her baby brother, Keith Andrew, and several nieces and nephews in England. She was also predeceased by her husband Leslie Taylor. She was dearly loved and loving as a mother to Caroline McConnell (Allan); a grandmother to Naomi Stock (Mike Wilson) and Taylor Stock (Charlotte Burton); and a great-Mat-Ma to Ava, Margot and Eli Wilson. She was also a loved step-mother to Sarah-Lyn Arnot (Terry); step-grandmother to Mark, Dan and Chad Evans; and step-great-grandmother to Chloë Evans. Missed also by her purr-fect companion Liam. Always strong, brave and fiercely independent, Irene emigrated to Canada on her own at the age of 24 after working in Germany at the Nuremberg Trials. She was proud to be a dedicated Brit, a proud Canadian, a middle child, the only one in her family without a middle name, a lefty, a sipper of sherry, a gardener and knitter par excellence, and a cat lover. She will be missed beyond words. At Irene’s request cremation has taken place. A celebration-of-life “party” will be held near her birthday in February. If desired, memorial donations can be made to CORP (Canadian Osteoarthritis Research Program). Arrangements entrusted to COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street.
