Evans, Jack Arthur: The Blue Jays lost an ardent fan with the passing of Jack Evans at PRHC on Thursday May 2nd, 2013. Jack passed away just short of his 90th birthday after a brief but dedicated fight with cancer. Beloved husband of Norma for 62 years. Loving father of his three girls, Meredith, Laurel, (Joseph Collet) and Nancy. Proud and (thankful) grandfather of three grandsons, Daniel and Matthew Perras and Kallaghan Collet. Jack dedicated his work life to CGE where he spent 42 years, in Toronto, Montreal and Peterborough. Jack enjoyed a lengthy retirement during which he and Norma indulged in their desire to travel the world. Jack embraced the benefits of physical fitness well before it became a trend. He was fit and active throughout his life, biking long distances during his youth in Toronto, trekking and hiking in his travels, and mowing the lawn and shovelling snow up until his last year. Jack was an avid naturalist and historian, serving on the boards of both the Peterborough Naturalists Association and the Historical Society for many years, as well as being a long-serving Trustee for St. Andrew’s United Church. Jack was also a great humourist and a punster, who engaged in witty repartee with his nurses up until his final hours.
Friends will be received at Comstock Funeral Home, 356 Rubidge Street, on Wednesday, May 8th from 7 to 9 p.m. On Thursday, May 9th, a one hour visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 441 Rubidge Street, followed by a service celebrating his life and memory, commencing at 2:00 p.m.
The family extends special thanks to Kathy, Becky and Gusto for their patient and dedicated care. In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Andrew’s United Church or to the charity of your choice made in Jack’s name, would be appreciated by the family. On-line condolences may be made at www.comstockfuneralhome.com.
