(WW II Veteran)
- With heavy hearts we announce the passing on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 of James (JAY) Albert Hayes of Omemee, just short of his 89th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Madeline (Betty) Elizabeth Greer, Jay was a wonderful father and supporter of his children, Brenda Boyd and her partner Bob Holmes, Robert Hayes and his wife Anita and the late William (Bill) Hayes. Jay was an amazing Grandpa to Chad Boyd (Julie), Erin Ahee (Adam) and Kendra Hayes (Dewayne). He was also Great Grandpa/Poppa Jay to Emma Boyd, Zachary and Keegan Ahee and Charlie Hayes-Mingo, who always had a chuckle and an ice-cream cone ready for their visits. Jay will also be greatly missed by his special friend of 39 years, Shirley Lowes and her children, Cathy, Karen, Rennie and Adriana Lowes and their families. Jay’s passing will leave a huge empty space in our family as he is fondly remembered by his many in-laws, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends in his community. He was the son of the late Bessie and Austin Hayes and predeceased by his brothers, Donald (Jennie), Dougall (Jeanne), and Robert (Berniece, Ola) Hayes. Jay was born on the Hayes Line in Emily Township and lived most of his life in Omemee. He was a staple in the village, greeting many with a friendly wave from his side porch. He will be missed for his caring, generous and humorous soul which stayed with him till the very end. Special thanks to the Red Cross PSW’s who made it possible for Dad to remain in his home as long as possible, and to the caring Dr’s and staff at the Ross Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be held at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, through Lorne Lodge # 375. Funeral Service will be held from TRINITY UNITED CHURCH, Omemee on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Emily Presbyterian Cemetery. In memory of Jay, donations may be made to the Omemee Legion Branch #497 Building Fund or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockfuneralhome.com
