

LOCKINGTON, Joan (nee Whitmore) – Passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2021 at Peterborough Regional Health Centre at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of Hewitt ‘Hugh’ Lockington for 23 years. Predeceased by her first husband Leonard Jones. (1994) Cherished mother of Randy Jones (Carol), Rosemarie Delahey (Brian), Terry Jones (Heather), and Susan Kartonchik (Randy). Proud Grandma of Brett Jones, Amy Jones (Peter), Cody Jones (Brianne), Connor Jones (Emily) and Sasha Jones. Dear sister of Paul Whitmore (Edna ‘Toots’) and David Whitmore (Norma). She will be fondly remembered by her large extended family and friends. Joan was a registered nurse (graduated in 1955) and member of St. Joseph’s Nurses Alumni. She belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star for 56 years, serving as Worthy Matron in 1971-72, 1991-92 and Grand Organist 1981-82. She was a volunteer at Peterborough Regional Health Centre and a member of Sage Age Players. She was an Organist/Choir Director at an early age starting at Selwyn Presbyterian Church. She continued in this role at the Omemee and St. Giles Presbyterian Churches, and until July of 2021, at St. Stephens Presbyterian Church. She was also on the Advisory Committee to create an easy-play, accessible music book for seniors called Sentimental Journey Down Memory Lane. As per Joan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will receive guests at St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church, 1140 St. Paul’s Street, Peterborough from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in half hour segments (guests must register to attend visitation by calling the Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre at 705-745-4683 or go to https://signup.com/go/KTQsaNa ). The Services for Joan will follow at the church starting at 12:30 p.m. with an Eastern Star Service followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. (guests must also register to attend the service by calling the funeral home at 705-745-4683 or go to https://signup.com/go/XsyqWxi ). Please arrive no later than 12:15 for the service so we can verify your attendance. Proof of full vaccination, along with government issued ID, are mandatory to attend indoor funeral services for those age 12 and older. Masks are required.
