It is with heavy hearts for Ken’s family, yet also joyful anticipation of knowing that he has entered into eternal rest that we announce his passing. Ken took his last breath on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at the age of 77 and went home to Jesus. Although he voiced that it made him sad to be dying right before Christmas, his family reassured him that this year the Best Christmas present was intentional time with him and comforted him with the fact that he brought the whole family together. While being at Hospice Peterborough for the last week of his life Ken was exceptionally cared for with great dignity and compassion by a dedicated staff of nurses, support workers and volunteers in a charming, peaceful and welcoming environment.
Ken was the dedicated and loving partner in life to Anita Sewell, who loved to travel with her, attending numerous concerts over many years in Branson, Missouri. They also often headed West in September out to Alberta to visit Ken’s youngest daughter and her family. They enjoyed many meals out at their favorite restaurants over their 30+ years by each other’s side, whilst befriending each owner, server and regular patron. Ken was a dedicated father of two daughters, Shelley Mander (Brian) and Angela Davey (Scott), who willingly and sacrificially provided for his girls by being both physically present and financially stable for them. For years Ken never said goodbye to Anita or his daughters (in person or on the phone) without ending with an “I love you”. The proud grandfather of 4 biological grandchildren Zach and Katelyn Mander and Madison and Carter Davey. He was also the chosen Grandfather to Anita’s 10 grandchildren; Kyle (heaven), Zack, Khadejah and Jhamal, Shane, Alicsia, Kianna, Keshon (heaven), Kierah and Kierstyn. Dear brother of Donna Lyn Creighton and Nancy Ellen Draper (Henry). Cherished Uncle to Nancy’s children Jeanine (Shawn), Bekki (Ian) and Crystal. Great Uncle to Bekki’s children Henley and Eveley. Deeply missed by Shelly Hinds (Paul), Angela Sewell and Mike and Karen Feeley. He will be sadly missed and fondly thought of by many friends and extended family.
Ken will be remembered for his strong work ethic and dedicated loyalty for 29 years at GE and received many plaques and gifts for his milestones within the company. Ken was a force to be reckoned with when it came to his Highschool Sports records while attending Adam Scott Collegiate in Javelin and Shotput. His exceptional height was something that rarely would go unnoticed and it is no surprise that he also enjoyed playing basketball! As a lifelong and avid watcher of a variety of sports Ken did have his favorite teams that he always rooted for; including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the Bluejays. This industrious man had a host of other jobs in his lifetime ranging from security, working in a mine shaft in Sudbury to roofing (the most complicated job being the Hutchinson House). A man who was known for remembering statistics of many topics, most notably math, sports scores and the date in detail of almost anything that happened in his lifetime! A man of quick-wit and joke telling, a wisecracker at heart Ken Byman will never be forgotten.
Special thanks for their dedication and caring manner goes out to the Excellent medical care of Dr. Morelli, INR Mark Fatum, Nurses and staff at Hospice Peterborough and Hematologist Dr. Shirif.
Visitation for Ken will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Ashburnham Funeral Home, found on the website dignitymemorial.com located at 840 Armour Road, from 10am -12pm followed by a Celebration of Life service, with a light lunch to follow.
