Kenneth Larry Sharp, son of Francis (nee Carman) and Fred Sharp, died peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2022, while in Palliative Care at Northumberland Hills Hospital in Cobourg, ON. Ken was the longest surviving dialysis patient in North America and perhaps the world, since 1976, until he received his kidney transplant on September 1, 2019. He was the first recipient of the Gerd Krick Achievement Award for being Canada’s longest living dialysis patient in 2017. He was involved in advocating for the bio-artificial kidney research being done in the US, The Kidney Project.
He leaves his aunt, June Houghton (nee Sharp), of Ottawa, and cousins: J. Patricia and James and Richard (d. 2020), and their families.
A musician and a dedicated Freemason, Bro. Sharp Affiliated with Corinthian Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 101 G.R.C. on April 16, 1993 from Lorne Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 375 G.R.C., where he had been a fellow-Mason with his late father. As well, he enthusiastically portrayed Brother Marshal in the Seventh Degree in the Peterborough Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
A graveside service has been arranged at Rosemount Memorial Gardens, Peterborough, ON to take place on Thursday, April 7, at 1:00 p.m.
