January 5th 1957- August 6th 2024
Peacefully surrounded by family at Hospice Peterborough on Tuesday August 6, 2024 in her 68th year. Beloved wife of the late Carl Agar. Loving mother of Zachary and Zoe. Dear sister to John Mitchell and Jean (Crough), Vern Wilson and Gary Wilson. Loved daughter of the late Charles Mitchell and Josephine Tripp. Predeceased by siblings Ron Wilson and Edyth Henderson. Will be sadly missed by her in-laws Alice and Gordon Agar, Rodrick Agar and Leslie Agar-Waite. Joanne was an aunt to numerous nephews and nieces and a best friend to many.
A talented artist, Joanne shared her passion for dance with many. A pioneer of performing arts in Peterborough, along with ballet, she popularized a variety of dance forms in the city through her dance studio and instructional programs. A committed educator, she lived her dream of sharing her knowledge and love with so many through teaching. After her career instructing dance, she blossomed as a teacher in the Durham and Peterborough, teaching many subjects to all ages over decades. She was a lover of nature and all its creatures great and small with a great enthusiasm for the Equine. Her passion for horseback riding and care started as a teenager and would grow to a lifelong pastime. The gift of a green thumb brought her to be an avid gardener and leader in her local garden community.
She shared her wealth of skills and ambitions with so many in the community, enriching the lives of so many, leaving fond memories of a golden soul who left the world better and brighter than she found it.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Hospice Peterborough. A celebration of life ceremony will be announced to friends and family.
