MacKenzie, Martha Elizabeth: Died suddenly at her residence in Peterborough, Ontario on Monday April 20, 2015. Elizabeth was born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia on January 29, 1957. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Cecilia and Peter MacKenzie and her beloved sister-in-law, Donelda (Stamp) MacKenzie. A childhood spent by the river in Greenwold provided stories worthy of Mark Twain - adventures and “near death” experiences as she and her nine siblings grew up surrounded by the culture of their Scottish ancestors and the beauty of the woods, the ocean and the river. She is survived by brothers Thomas, John (Jan), Raymond, Michael and Paul (Kate) and sisters Margaret, Ann, Mary and Carol as well as her cherished Josie (Dylan Gerard) and dearest friend, Jeanette McCaskill. No Aunt ever showered more love or felt more pride for nieces and nephews Michael John (Keesha), Stephane, Danielle, Peter, Lily, James, Sam and great-niece Michaela. Too many to mention are the countless children she raised who owe so much of who they became to her guidance, care and love. In a career that spanned over 35 years of caring for children, she leaves a priceless legacy. All who had the great fortune to be within her wide circle of love will cherish the books she gave us, the insights she shared with us and the hugs she bestowed upon us every day. Friends will be received at the COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street, from 11:00 am – 11:45 am Tuesday, April 28, 2015. The service will be held in the chapel at 12:00 noon with reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the registered charity, Canadian Friends of Peru, 21 Dunstall Cres. Toronto, M1E 3M3.
