Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Donald. She is the beloved mother of Susan, Jeannette (Robert), Lisa (Allan) and Anita (Jim), Grandmother/Nana to Sam and Annie, Maia and Vance, Katelyn (Paul) and Christina, Hannah, Stephen and Maggie. Great grandmother/GG to Adeline, Isaac Heder, and Isaac Arends. She is survived by her siblings, John (Margaret), Cathy (predeceased by Sandy), and Mary-Lou (Doug).
Mom was the eldest child of Nettie and Willard and grew up on the Waterman family farm in Fraserville, and raised her family in Millbrook and Peterborough. She was a lifelong member of the United Church of Canada, and active in the UCW throughout her life. She loved the Arts and rarely missed evenings with The Peterborough Singers, In from the Cold, The Peterborough Symphony, The Muse and the 4th Line Theatre. Mom had a heart for the community and was a dedicated supporter of organizations that support youth in crisis.
She was a world traveler throughout her life. At 80, she went on an African Safari and in 2001, travelled to Viet Nam, accompanying her granddaughter, Maia, home to Canada with her mother, Jeannette.
She graduated from Peterborough Normal School and taught for many years. She and our Dad owned and operated Les French Locksmith before retiring. She loved her garden and most of all, time with family. She never missed a family party, a graduation, or a birthday.
A funeral service will be held at St. John’s Anglican Church, Ida at 1;00 pm on Tuesday October 15th 2024. Friends are invited to visit one hour before the service at the church.
In accordance with Mom’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations to YES Shelter for Youth and Families, Five Counties Children’s Centre or Peterborough Regional Health Centre are appreciated. To leave condolences and expressions of sympathy please visit www.communityalternative.ca
