SCULLY, Mary Rita RN – 1919-2015 With deep sadness the children of Rita Scully, 96, announce her death on 28 January at Cardinal Ambrozic Houses of Providence, Toronto . Born on 17 January 1919 in Peterborough, ON, to the late Edward and Teresa (née Moran) delaPlante of Peterborough, our mother has yielded to the infirmities of old age. Preceded in death in 1992 by her husband of 46 years and a veteran of WWII, W/O Girard DeSales (Dee) Scully, CD, of Peterborough, she is survived by her children Bryan (Anne) of Edmonton, AB; Janet of Toronto; Michael of Toronto; and Mark (Joanne) of Bowmanville, ON. Grandchildren who mourn her death are Michelle Scully of Chicago; Catherine Scully (Neal Cody) of Edmonton; Valerie (Stephen) Saunders of Bowmanville; and Michelle (Mark) Armstrong of Bowmanville as well as five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Ethan, Nathan and Gavin. Our mother is also survived by her brother Leo delaPlante of Ottawa and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. She is predeceased by her siblings Gordon (Jean), Gerard (Nellie), Cecelia (Carl Garskey), Terri (Roy MacLaren), and sister-in-law Sallie. Trained as a nurse in Whitby and Toronto, our mother ceased practicing her profession upon marriage in 1946 and, shortly thereafter, began 23 years as a military wife and mother when our father was stationed with the RCAF in Clinton, Centralia, and Trenton, ON; Goose Bay, NL; Greenwood, NS; Summerside, PE; and Ottawa. Fifteen years of civilian life in Toronto followed. Upon our father's retirement from Spar Aerospace, our parents returned to Peterborough to enjoy many wonderful years with family members and friends whom they had missed dearly when we lived elsewhere. Our family would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at the Houses of Providence for the personal care that they provided during Mom’s final days. Friends are invited to call at the KAYE FUNERAL HOME “Memorial Chapel” 539 George St. N., on Sunday from 1-4pm. Funeral Mass will be held at ST. ALPHONSUS LIGUORI ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1066 Western Avenue, on Monday, February 2, 2015 at 10.00am. Reverend Fr. Jerry Tavares officiating. Interment St. Peter’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Charity of your Choice.
