

Passed away peacefully at Fairhaven (formerly of Douro) on Sunday, February 15, 2015 in her 103rd year. Beloved wife of the late Francis Towns (1980). Loving mother of Ellen Hay of Toronto, Catherine Vollering of Owen Sound, Marian Darling, Margaret Shilton, Joanne Garvey and Peter Towns of Peterborough and Frank (Adele) of Edmonton. Lovingly remembered by 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Dear daughter of the late Maurice O’Leary and Frances Fitzpatrick. Dear sister of Anne Vermette (Marc) of Montreal. Predeceased by her brothers Joe and John and sister Veronica O’Leary. Fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. She was a longtime member of the CWL St, Joseph’s church Douro. A longtime member of the Craft Guild and a expert in the art of quilting. A founding member of the Executive Board of Peterborough County Community Care, and a volunteer with Lakefield Community Care. Also a founding member of the Douro Senior Citizens Club. She received the Ontario Good Citizen award for her volunteer work in 1993. She received a Civic Award from the Township of Douro-Dummer in 2013 for her volunteer work and contributions to her community. Visitation will take place on Friday, February 20, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. & 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. with parish prayers at 3:45 p.m. at COMSTOCK FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 356 Rubidge Street. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC CHURCH DOURO, 300 County Road 8.
