Our beloved mother, Muriel Elizabeth Bunkiewicz, has entered into eternal rest. She is finally in the arms of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, peacefully, in her 95th year, in the early hours of July 14, 2025.
Joyfully reunited in heaven with her husband of 50 years, Janek Bunkiewicz (2000), daughter Yvonne (2010) and son Edzio (2023).
Muriel was born in Dublin, Ireland, an only child to Annie Maria and Thomas O'Kane. After finishing school, she moved to London for work, where she met her beloved Janek. Mum and Dad started their life together in England and eventually immigrated to Canada in 1957 with their three eldest children, settling in Scarborough, Ontario. Together, they built a happy new life, added three more children to the clan and eventually retired in Buckhorn, Ontario.
Mum created a happy home for us, always filled with delicious food, a cup of tea, laughter and love. A proper Irish lady with steadfast faith, who also spoke Gaelic and Polish. A modest, gifted songstress who devoted her life to serving God and her family.
Muriel is survived by her daughters; Halina, Dana, Susan and Michelle (Bill), 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Mum, we are grateful for all your sacrifices, devotion and unconditional love for our family. We are comforted knowing you are reunited with Dad, Yvonne and Edzio.
Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord,
May the perpetual light shine upon her.
May she rest in peace,
Amen.
A heartfelt thank you to staff at the Village of Taunton Mills in Whitby for their kindness and compassion with Mum's end of life care.
We invite you to honour our Mum by attending a funeral mass of Christian burial to be held at the Cathedral of St. Peter-In-Chains, 411 Reid Street, Peterborough on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at 10 AM. Interment to follow at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Cemetery, 870 High Street, Peterborough. All are welcome to return to Comstock-Kaye Life Celebration Centre, 356 Rubidge Street, Peterborough for the reception, thereafter.
As Mum was most happy to prepare and share a meal with you, in lieu of flowers, a donation to your local food bank would be appreciated by the family.
Finally, a proper Irish farewell to our beautiful Irish Ma,
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
