Rita Pauline Lucas passed away, peacefully, at the young age of 96, in Peterborough Ontario. Rita is lovingly remembered by her children, Philip (Frances), Heath (Wendy), and Zoe (Gerry), and her grandchildren, Matthew, Jeffrey (Krissy) and Connor, and great grandchildren, Forest and Winni Rita.
Rita was a remarkable woman who took great pride in the many accomplishments and achievements of her beloved family. Rita loved spending time in nature and the outdoors, and especially gardening. Over her lifetime, Rita contributed and participated in many charities and volunteer organizations. From being a member of the Women’s Royal Naval Service, where she was born in England, to working many years with the Nova Scotia Government.
Rita was very proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments over the years such as her daughter Zoe receiving the Order of Canada in August this year. Her grandson Matthew’s publication of his wildlife photography in Canadian Geographic this fall. Rita delighted in her grandson Jeffrey and his wife Krissy’s new baby girl this year, Winni Rita and her great grandson Forest. Rita also loved to share the adventures of her grandson Connors engineering studies at University.
Rita will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
A celebration of life and farewell gathering to be held in Nova Scotia, in the spring of 2025, to return Rita to the land she raised her family and called home.
