20 July 1946 – 12 March 2020
After a few days of wonderful care in the palliative ward of the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Bob Cooper, 73, of Cobourg, Ontario, died in his sleep, surrounded by family, on the 12th of March 2020.
Bob is survived by Nancy, his wife of 43 years, his children Sandy (Stephanie) Cooper, Stephanie (Kent) Miller, and David Cooper, along with five loving grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his family very much.
A sales and marketing executive and consultant for over four decades, Bob’s career took him all over the world. He was born and raised in Montreal, lived in the Toronto area for his entire working career, and loved the city of London, England, above all other municipalities. However, the street on which he raised his family, Ritter Crescent in Unionville, would always hold a special place in his heart. Ritter was a place where all neighbours were friends, and all the kids from every household were around the same age. The countless street parties, ravine walks, and backyard BBQs with friends will remain imprinted in the memories of all who lived there.
Bob was fortunate to count many business triumphs amongst his achievements in the medical imaging, packaging, and business forms and systems industries, but a few deserve special mention. Knowing that axes held a special place in the heart of a Japanese business associate, Bob purchased a double-headed axe at Canadian Tire for about $30.00. When questioned by security at Narita airport in Tokyo, he explained the four-foot long weapon was a “business gift,” and was allowed on his way, securing a multi-million-dollar deal in the process. However, he is perhaps most famous for bringing the unique “bag-in-the-box” wine packaging to Canada from Australia in the late 1980s. A grateful nation continues to thank him for this innovation.
Bob was a lifelong skier, who passed his love for this sport to all of his children. He only discovered golf in his 40s, but this too became a passion. A celebration of life will be held at his home in Cobourg once pandemic travel restrictions have been lifted. This is tentatively scheduled for late-May 2020, and invitations will be sent once the global situation stabilizes. Online condolences may be made at www.comstockkaye.com.
